Ecosystems:There are abiotic(nonliving ex. rain)& biotic(living ex. rabbits)factors in an ecosystem.These factors work together to make an ecosystem function.
Changes in an Ecosystem:Ecosystems change slowly everyday.Succession is the growth of new organisms in an area.Primary succesion is changes to an area where there is no ecosystem.Secondary succesion is changes to an area where an ecosystem is present.This occurs mostly after it's wiped out and starts to regrow.
Food Chains:Producers-->herbivores-->carnivores-->decomposers
Producers take in sunlight,herbivores eat the producers,carnivores eat the herbivores and decomposers eat their dead remains and create nutrients.
Food webs:Food webs are inter locked food chains.Different animals share the same prey and predators.
Symbiosis:Symbiosis is the relationship between two organisms in a community(Ex. fleas & dogs).There are 3 types of symbiosis.Parasitism is a relationship between two organism where only one benefits while the other is harmed.A parasite is an organism that feeds off another organism and its host is the harmed organism.Commensalism is when one organism benefits and the other's not harmed(Ex. bird & a tree).Mutualism is when when both organisms benefit(Ex. Egyptian plover & crocodile).
Biomes:Biomes are major ecosystems made up of different habitats.There are 6 biomes on earth:taiga,tundra,deciduous forest,tropical rainforest,dessert and grassland.The main differences are their climates.The deciduous forest is the only biome with 4 seasons:summer,spring,winter and fall.Trees bloom in spring and loose leaves in the fall.Leopards,toucans and monkeys can be found in the tropical rainforest.The climate is warm and humid year round.Heavy rains help keep forest lush and green.The taiga is the largest biome,stretching across Canada,Europe and Asia.It has two seasons,cold winters and warm summers.The tundra is so cold & frozen that no trees can grow.The deserts climate is hot & dry.They receive less than 10 inches of rain all year!Grasslands are found in United States,Africa,Asia and South America.Grains like corn,wheat and barley grow there.
Population Growth:Organisms like spiders are limiting factors,living or non living factors that help control the growth of population in an ecosystem.Food,water and sun are limiting factors too.Weather,disease,pollution,natural disasters,new species and hunting are all factors that contribute to population growth.Some animals,however,are hunted to being endangered.Every species plays a role in an balanced ecosystem.When a species dies out,they are extinct.Conservation can save the species.
